Monday- New vocabulary words for a new novel today! Second period we will present our poetry folders.

Week of 10/27-10/31
Monday- Mr. C will hand out a vocabulary review sheet that includes all of the spell/vocab words from the novel Hatchet. Students will fill in the sheet to the best of their ability from memory and then use their notes to fill in the rest. We will begin a chapter by chapter review of the novel today as well.
Homework: Finish vocab review sheet.
Tuesday- We will continue with the chapter by chapter review today. Mr. C will also outline the entire test for the students before allowing them time to study.
Homework: Prepare for Hatchet Test.
Wednesday- Hatchet Test! (Mr. C would really like to see everybody be prepared and do well on this test!!!).

Thursday- Uninterrupted Silent Sustained Reading. Mr. C will read from Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".

Friday- Mr. C will finish "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and then we will play "spelling hoops"-a low pressure spelling bee game.

Tuesday- After briefly discussing our Coat of Arms projects, students will be given class time to read chapters 16 and 17 in Hatchet. Students are to complete chapter organizers for the two chapters and be prepared to take a quiz on the material on Tuesday.

Wednesday- We will take a reading comprehension quiz on chapters 16 and 17 in Hatchet today. After the quiz we will read aloud as a class from the novel and discuss the moose attack.

Thursday- Class time to finish reading the novel and chapter organizers in preparation for our final Hatchet quiz on Thursday.

Tuesday- Mr. C will check everyone's homework for accuracy. Any student with out their homework will receive a Lunch Detention. In class today we will be writing sentences using the spell/vocab words. Mr. C will introduce the author of the novel we will be reading and hand out copies of Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen.
Homework: Finish reading Chapter 1 in Hatchet.
Wednesday: We will have a reading period 1st period on Wednesday so that students may read chapter 2 in Hatchet. There will be a quiz today on Chapters 1 and 2. These will be corrected and discussed in class.
Homework: Students should find an independent reading novel to bring to class on Thursday.
Thursday: Uninterrupted Silent Sustained Reading for 1st period. During 2nd period we will be doing a personal interest inventory to prepare for our 1st writing assignment.
